How to Open Demat and Trading Account

  1. Fill up the form, paper or paperless & submit for verification.
  2. All your details are scanned and verified for opening your account.
  3. Once verified, you receive a unique ID & voila, you are ready to trade.

During the account opening process, if you face an issue while eSigning with Aadhaar you can now eSign via eMudhra, this is an alternative to eSign via Aadhaar.

What is eMudhra?

eMudhra is a PAN-based eSign service provider. It basically lets you digitally sign any form based on your PAN and mobile number.

When should you use eMudhra?
You can use eMudhra if you are facing any of the following issues while e-Signing your account opening form:

  • Your mobile number and Aadhaar are not linked
  • You have not received an OTP on your mobile number
  • The mobile number linked to your Aadhaar is not in service anymore or a different mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar

How to eSign with eMudra if you have a Demat account with another broker (that is not Upstox)?
Step 1: Select e-Sign with eMudhra while opening your account
Step 2: Follow instructions on the screen, select the PAN details options and enter the details as required

Step 3: Upload required documents
Step 4: Set a username and MPIN.
Step 5: Proceed to verify and record your In-Person Verification (IPV) video 

Step 6: On recording your IPV video, navigate back to the Upstox website and click on the continue button to eSign your Upstox account opening form 
Step 7: Click on ‘Perform eSign’ after entering your MPIN and OTP.
Step 8: Navigate back to the Upstox account opening application webpage

How to eSign with eMudra if you do not have a Demat account with another broker?
Step 1: Select e-Sign with eMudhra while opening your account
Step 2: Set MPIN and complete video recording

Step 3: Navigate back to Upstox and click on continue button to  ‘Perform eSign’
Step 4: Enter your PAN details in the signer ID field, MPIN as set earlier, and the OTP
Step 5: Click on the ‘Perform eSign’ button to complete eSign with eMudhra.

Step 6: You will be automatically navigated back to the Upstox website once you have clicked on the  ‘Perform eSign’ button.

Getting documents e-Signed may take upto 3-4 hours. You can track the status of your Upstox account opening application with the link you receive via SMS.

How much time does it take to open a demat account?

Once you submit your complete account opening form and upload all the required documents for verification, it takes about 12-24 hours to open an account.

What kind of margins does Upstox provide?

What documents are required to open a demat account?

Opening a demat account is Aadhaar-based. You just have to keep these documents handy to fasttrack your application: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, Canceled Cheque and the Latest Bank Statement with IFSC/MICR code.

Why does Upstox require a Power of Attorney (POA) to open a demat account?

You have to submit a physical POA to be able to sell and transfer shares from your demat account, as per the rules set by the stock exchanges you wish to trade on.
